You are able to enable and disable the tips at each Location. Tips can be accepted either digitally on the customer facing display OR written on a paper receipt and inputted on the order after it is closed. You may set up a Location to do one of these options at a time, not both.
- Tips can be enabled or disabled for Stored Value payments. Otherwise, when tips are enabled, it is for all payment types including Credit, Split Credit, House Accounts, and Tabs.
- When paying for the full order with a Custom Tender, the guest is not prompted to tip.
- Please see section Card on File Tipping Options for more information about tipping on Card on File payments.
- Digital tip percentage options are set up in your Clover Dashboard during the project implementation. If you need the tip percentages updated, please contact Clover Sport Product Support.

How Are Tips Calculated?
Tips are calculated as a percentage or a dollar amount on top of the Subtotal + Order-Level Adjustments (including Taxes).
This means that Tips are calculated on the amount after order adjustments have been applied, including: Discounts, Taxes, Surcharges, Surcharge Taxes, Gratuity, and Promotions. Donations are not included in the amount when applying a percentage tip. In other words, guests may add a Donation and tip on the pre-donation subtotal.
Keep in mind that orders can be split across multiple payments, so each payment may have a separate tip amount.
For example, you may pay with a Custom Tender first (no tip) and use Credit for the remaining balance (tip).
How to Enable and Disable Tips at a Location
To enable or disable tips at a Location,
1. Navigate to POS Manager > Locations.
2. Navigate to the Payment and Checkout Settings (or Payment Settings) in the Locations Page for the location you wish to edit.
- If Allow Tips is checked, customers are presented with the opportunity to add a tip when paying at that Location.
- If Allow Tips is not checked, tips are disabled for that Location.
Accept Digital Signatures and Tips: Station Duo and Flex
You must Accept Digital Signatures and Allow Tips at a Location in order for the digital tip screen to appear on the customer facing display on the Duo and the Flex.
- Note: Locations closing orders on Flex must Accept Digital Signatures. There is no option to edit tips on a completed order on the Flex, so tips written on paper receipts are not able to be inputted on a Flex device after an order has been completed. Tips must be digitally inputted on the Flex.
Once a tender option is selected the customer facing display prompts the customer to proceed with the payment.
- Note: Tip screens vary depending on payment type.

Accept Signatures on Printed Receipts: Station Duo Only
If you would like your guests to write their tip on a printed receipt and provide a written signature, then enable Accept Signatures on Printed Receipts and Allow Tips. This means that the digital tip screen will not populate after an order is paid for.
Instead, you will enable auto-print settings for all accepted payment types and disable email receipts. Email Receipts are available on the Station Duo regardless if enabled at the Location.
Once an order is completed and the signed receipt is returned to the server, the server inputs the tip on the completed order. To learn how to add the tip from the receipt to a completed order, please click here.
Alternative venue interface:
If your venue does not include our contactless commerce options, you may not see an Accept signatures on printed receipts toggle. Instead, please refer to the image below to configure your venue for accepting signatures on printed receipts.
-
Note: When Accept Digital Signatures is unchecked, the digital tip prompt does not display.
Signature Required Threshold
When a Location is set to Accept Digital Signatures and Allow Tips, you may set a Signature Required Threshold so that only orders above that dollar amount require a signature. This helps to speed up lines.
For example, if your Signature Required Threshold is set to $500, only orders with totals above $500 prompt the guest to sign on the customer facing display.
- Note: The Signature Required Threshold impacts Credit payments and House Account payments.
Any order total below the threshold will not require a signature.
- Note: The Signature Required Threshold does not impact the blank tip and signature line when accepting printed signatures. Regardless of the threshold, printed receipts will always have a blank signature line and blank tip line (if allowing tips).
How to Accept Tips at Your Venue without Prompting for a Digital Signature
1. Navigate to POS Manager > Locations.
2. Select the location where you would like to accept tips, but not digital signatures.
3. Scroll down to the Tips and Signatures section.
4. Make sure that Allow Tips is turned on.
5. Make sure that Accept Digital Signatures is turned on.
6. Input a high Signature Required Threshold amount so that any orders below that amount will not prompt the customer to digitally sign on the payment screen.
In the example below, the Signature Required Threshold is set to $500.00. All orders allow for a tip but only orders totaling $500.00 or more prompt the customer for their signature.
